Silverstein Are Peta2's Best Animal-Friendly Band

Silverstein
It's already been documented how popular Silverstein are with ChartAttack readers, but the Burlington, Ont. emo-punk band are also apparently loved by animal rights activists.

All the members of Silverstein are vegetarians, and they teamed up with Peta2 for last year's 28-city "I Am Not A Nugget" tour, where fans could pick up animal rights literature and sign a petition calling on the American government to include chickens in the Humane Slaughter Act (HSA). The group also support Peta2's KFC boycott and shot an ad in which they declared, "Five out of five members of Silverstein agree: Cruelty to animals sucks."

These activities earned Silverstein the best animal-friendly band prize in Peta2's second annual Libby Awards. Libby, if you hadn't already guessed, is short for "liberation." Rise Against was the runner-up.

Scary Kids Scaring Kids
edged out The Hush Sound and took the Libby for best newcomer to Peta2. Keyboardist Pouyan Afkary urged fans to support the KFC boycott and HSA petition drive, while the band sponsored a camera give-away on Peta2's website.

Vans Warped Tour was named the best tour, while Victory beat Epitaph to win the Libby for most animal-friendly record label.
