Shins Member Marty Crandall Charged With Assaulting Girlfriend

Marty Crandall and Elyse Sewell in happier times

Shins multi-instrumentalist Marty Crandall was jailed over the weekend after allegedly assaulting his girlfriend, former America's Next Top Model finalist Elyse Sewell.

After an apparent altercation in a Sacramento, California hotel on Friday, Crandall was charged with felony domestic assault and held on $25,000 U.S. bail until Sunday. Sewell was also arrested and jailed, but was released on Saturday. Both of them are scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday.

Most of the details made public about the incident are pretty one-sided, since they came from Sewell's LiveJournal.com blog page, which also included a photo of her bruised arm. The post has now been removed on the advice of lawyers.

ChartAttack won't publish her most potentially prejudicial statements, but we will offer this:

"Because he had a bite mark, inflicted in self-defense, on his arm, Marty told the police to PRESS CHARGES OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AGAINST ME. Now I am a felon. I spent the night in jail."

Lewis complained about how she was treated in jail and how she'll be stuck in Sacramento, "alone and lonely," until her court appearance. But she's already looking to the future and putting Crandall in her past.

"I'm single and um, ready to mingle," Lewis wrote. "Blind date, anyone?"
