Sudbury, Ont. singer/songwriter Kate Maki will release her third album, On High, on Feb. 12 through Confusion Unlimited.

The LP was co-produced by Maki and Giant Sand's Howe Gelb and recorded live over five days in March at Ottawa's Little Bullhorn Studios by Dave Draves (Julie Doiron).

"Kate Maki's music is kind of up and percolated," Gelb says. "She's a hardy country type of pioneer woman."Her acoustic guitar pickin' rhythm is like a drum and she can belt out, even when she is quiet, like a storm. Her sound is sunny and brisk."

The 11-track album features Gelb on piano and electric guitar, Draves on optigan and organ, Dale Murray (Cuff The Duke, The Guthries) on pedal steel and acoustic guitar and Nathan Lawr (Royal City, The Minotaurs) on drums and piano. The songs also feature vocal contributions from the four musicians, and Lawr co-wrote "Badminton Racquet."

"Blue Morning" and "Beyond The Sun" can be previewed on Maki's MySpace page.

Maki released Confusion Unlimited in 2003 and The Sun Will Find Us in 2004. Her second album included the song "To Get Across," which was featured in the Allan Moyle-directed film Weirdsville, which was released in Canadian theatres in October.
