Canadian singer/songwriter Kathleen Edwards has completed recording her new album, and Asking For Flowers will arrive in stores on March 4 via Zoe/Rounder.
Edwards produced the album with Jim Scott (Tom Petty, Whiskeytown), who mixed 2005's Back To Me for her. It was mostly recorded at Plyrz Studio in Los Angeles, where Edwards worked with some of the same musicians from that last record, including Heartbreakers keyboardist Benmont Tench and Edwards' husband, guitarist/producer Colin Cripps. Bob Dylan drummer Don Heffington, bassist Bob Glaub (Jackson Browne, Leonard Cohen) and pedal steel player Greg Leisz (Smashing Pumpkins, Wilco) also contributed.
"My only regrets, not getting to sing with John Doe, Josh Ritter, Jim Cuddy, Jacob Dylan, and every other hot 'J' singer i can think of," Edwards wrote on her website on Monday.
The 29-year-old Ottawa native contributed vocals to three songs (including single "The Golden State") on Doe's A Year In The Wilderness, which was released by Yep Roc in June.
While not recording or performing, Edwards spent time this summer working at a winery in Ontario's Niagara region.
Edwards first received international attention for her 2003 debut LP, Failer, which was nominated for a Juno Award for best solo roots and traditional album. She's been nominated twice for top songwriter and Back To Me earned a 2006 Juno nod for adult alternative album of the year.
Here are the songs on Asking For Flowers:
"Buffalo"
"The Cheapest Key"
"Asking For Flower"
"Alicia Ross"
"I Make The Dough, You Get The Glory"
"Oil Man's War"
"Sure As Shit"
"Run"
"Oh Canada"
"Scared At Night"
"Goodnight, California"
