Kid Rock's Court No-Shows Could Cost Him Some Cash

An Oakland County, Mich. judge has thrown out a lawsuit filed by Kid Rock against a 28-year-old woman who he said defamed him by claiming that he assaulted her at his studio on March 8.

Rock (real name Robert James Ritchie) was absolved of the assault charge a short time later after police concluded that Kelly Ann Kozlowski didn't have enough evidence to back up her allegations. The rocker said that he planned to sue her for filing a false police report, but that's no longer possible since he didn't show up for a court-ordered deposition that had been ordered to take place by the end of October.

"What's special about him," Judge Shalina Kumar asked Rock's lawyer, William Horton, on Wednesday. "Why does he get to violate a court's order?"

Horton said that Rock had scheduling conflicts and had proposed some alternative November dates to give his deposition.

Kozlowski filed a civil suit against Rock and is seeking more than $25,000 U.S. in damages. Judge Kumar gave a default ruling against the 36-year-old singer regarding the complaint, which means that he'll be unable to contest it at a trial slated to begin on Feb. 5. Barring an appeal, a jury will be asked to decide how much damages Kozlowski is entitled to since the judge's decision means that liability is no longer an issue.

Rock is still facing a misdemeanour battery charge for his role in a brawl outside an Atlanta Waffle House last month.
