Weezer Announces Release Date For Album Six, Rivers Goes It Alone

Everyone's favourite nerds are back from studioland with treasures in tow. Weezer have officially announced release dates for two new albums. The new studio project Album Six will drop on April 22, 2008, but for the geekzers on everyone's Christmas list, a collection of frontman Rivers Cuomo's home recordings will be out on Dec. 11, 2007.
The band have had little to say about their new numerically titled release. On their MySpace blog, webmaster Karl Koch revealed only that, "This album pretty much sounds like this album, and not much else!" Meanwhile, on weezer.com, bassist Scott Shriner enthusiastically announced, "At the beginning of the recording each member asked himself 'What do you want out of this session?' The answer lies ahead."
Rivers Cuomo has been more open about his personal release, Alone: The Home Recordings Of Rivers Cuomo, which contains material dating from 2007 all the way back to 1992. The singer told Alternative Press that he had wanted to release a demo album 10 years ago, but an A&R agent at Geffen Records discouraged him from "dilut[ing] the Weezer name with sub-par material."
"It has taken me a long time to finally get — I guess, get up the courage to push to get this out," said Cuomo.
He also says that his demo album will contain several songs from the legendary lost Weezer album, The Black Hole. Alone was originally intended to be released along with a publication of Rivers' personal diaries, but the book has been postponed. Cuomo said he hopes to release other demo CDs in the future.
