Avril Lavigne Attack On Perez Hilton An Internet Hoax?

Perhaps no one ever told Avril Lavigne that sticks and stones may break her bones, but names will never hurt her. Or that having a fat guy with blue hair scribbling white "coke" dots all over pictures of your nose and calling you "not cute" isn't really a devastating insult that we mere non-famous civilians can't even begin to fathom.
Whatever the case, the Canadian pop-punk princess allegedly just took a stand against catty bogger Perez Hilton. Or so we thought.
The singer apparently recently launched her own website, PerezLavigne.com, as a retaliatory measure against the painfully ubiquitous gossip blogger. With the impressively self-aware subheading "Welcome to the Kindergarten," Perez Lavigne is supposed to be Avril's way of getting revenge against Perez Hilton for all of those mean things he's said about her music, her wardrobe and her punk rawk lifestyle.
"Maybe you have already heard that Perez Hilton wrote bad things about me on his online Blog," Lavigne "wrote" on the site. "I mean, he thinks in his own little world that he is the best and he makes everybody look silly on his Blog. But in reality he is the biggest silly person I've ever seen! His insults have really hurt me so please help me to kick Perez in the ass with this web site now!"
Readers are then asked if they'd like to show support for Avril and help her to kick Perez in the ass and make him disappear by logging on to the site and hitting "Vote To Kick Perez Butt!!" The goal being to get one million unique visitors to vote for her cause.
"After 1,000,000 votes the pressure on Perez will be so high that he has to act!" the singer claims. The exact nature of this supposed action is not specified.
As wonderfully purposeless as a feud like this could have been, the powers-that-be behind Lavigne are saying the site is a hoax. Lavigne's manager, Terry McBride, released a statement, sentence case-free, as forwarded from Lavigne's label Sony BMG, saying "we do not engage in attacking people, its such a negative energy, we are focusing on all the positive things we have going on such as the upcoming world tour".
The smell of hoax is everywhere. But so are the hints of willy Nettwerk management viral marketing campaign. I wonder what a search at Betterwhois.com will reveal?
