Amy Winehouse's House Ransacked By Police

Amy Winehouse

In a shocking turn of events, Amy Winehouse has been involved in a police sting. That's not the shocking part — what's alarming is that it wasn't about drugs. In fact, it wasn't even about Winehouse.

No, this time around it was Mr. Amy Winehouse, Blake Fielder-Civil. The heavily self-medicated chanteuse's husband was arrested by British authorities on a charge of "perverting the course of justice," a charge that amounts to obstruction of justice. MTV reported late Thursday evening that Fielder-Civil and three other accomplices had been arrested in an alleged plot to bribe bartender James King.

Fielder-Civil and friend Michael Brown stand accused of assaulting King on June 20 of this year. Winehouse's partner in train-wreckery has now been implicated in a plot to offer King $400,000,000 to withdraw his official statement to police regarding the incident. Various media outlets had earlier reported that the Camden house shared by Winehouse and Fielder-Civil was thoroughly searched by London police, though the couple were not home at the time.

Early speculation of course immediately suggested it had something to do with drugs. The often publicly trashed and notoriously difficult Winehouse has been dogged by media reports of excessive and enthusiastic indulgence in class A through Z narcotics.

Winehouse's publicist told MTV that Winehouse "had not been arrested," and has yet to be implicated in the supposed plot. Winehouse recently drew the caustic ire of critics and observers with her slurred performance at the MTV Europe Music Awards last week, and an alleged hotel trashing incident involving a plate of spaghetti bolognese.

It would seem that Winehouse is in a game of "negative-news-one-up-manship" with Babyshambles frontman Pete Doherty. Looks like the ball's back in Doherty's court — which is a little terrifying, and undoubtedly no good for anybody.
