Neverending White Lights' Daniel Victor and Magneta Lane's Lexi Valentine Making Duet Album

Neverending White Lights' Daniel Victor

Windsor, Ont.-based producer/musician Daniel Victor isn't content doing just one thing. While his sophomore effort under the Neverending White Lights moniker, Act II: The Blood And The Life Eternal, was released this week, he's also been keeping himself more than busy with a handful of other projects.

Between producing an EP for Los Angeles-based group Sunday Driver and writing material for a solo record, he's also found time to record the better part of another album that's something completely different than NWL.

"I'm working on a new album right now, it's a project called Black Ribbons," says Victor. "It's Lexi [Valentine] from Magneta Lane and myself. It's sort of a dark, dance, '80s-inspired work with guy-girl vocals."

The pair first worked together on a track on the new NWL record, where Valentine shared vocal duties with Victor on the morosely titled "Black Is The Colour Of My True Love's Heart." That duet — recorded this past spring — inspired them to write some songs together and, subsequently, form Black Ribbons as a vehicle for those songs. It's a partnership that has, in Victor's mind, already produced some of his best work.

"We were working on it the other day," says Victor. "And I wrote this song, and it's that song that's just going to be the end of everything."

Some of the inspiration for Black Ribbons comes from Victor's admiration for Danish garage rockers The Raveonettes, though not necessarily in sound or aesthetics. Victor says it's "because of the guy-girl vocal thing." The Black Ribbons debut could see the light of day sooner than many think, though no official release date has been set.

"We've got a full record and I would expect it will be out early next year," says Victor. "But it depends on the Magneta record, but I think maybe a winter release. It's really interesting and strong and not like anything anyone is doing in Canada right now."
