Sunset Rubdown Rub Out The New Pornographers

The Onlys

After a number of weeks of conservative movement on the top 50 chart, where close contenders attempted to dethrone the reigning champion, it took a relative outsider to take down The New Pornographers.

Parachuting in all the way from #32 on last week's chart to claim the #1 spot is Sunset Rubdown's Random Spirit Lover. Last week's contender, The Sadies' New Seasons, remains at #2. Stars' In Our Bedroom After The War rises a spot to #3 and Weakerthans' Reunion Tour drops a notch to #4. Iron And Wine's The Shepherd's Dog jumps three places to #5, forcing Caribou's Andorra down a place to #6. Last week's #1 album, The New Pornographers' Challengers, tumbles down six spots. Current Chart magazine cover boy Kevin Drew sees his debut solo album, Spirit If..., return to the top 10 at #8. Fellow Arts & Crafts band The Most Serene Republic jumped four spots to #9 with Population. Bella's No One Will Know rises nine places to land at #10.

The Chart Sizzler Award for the highest debut on the top 50 goes to Shotgun Jimmie's The Onlys. Better known as one half of the now-defunct Maritime duo Shotgun And Jaybird, Jimmie enters the charts at #16 on the wings of airplay from seven campus radio stations. The Onlys charted at #2 at CKDU (Dalhousie), #3 at CHMA (Mount Allison), #4 at CFBU (Brock), #5 at CKXU (Lethbridge), #7 at CFRU (Guelph), #9 at CFCR (Sasaktoon) and #13 at CFUR (Northern British Columbia).

Radiohead's In Rainbows arrives at #23, which means that a number of music directors downloaded it to play on their stations. Other notable debuts include Nifty's A Sparrow! A Sparrow! at #28, C'mon's Bottled Lightning (Of An All Time High) at #32 and Small Sins' Mood Swings at #43.

Things are at a snail's pace on the five specialty charts, with three of them featuring the same #1s as last week and the other two having former #1s returning to the top. Aesop Rock's None Shall Pass remains at #1 on the Hip-Hop chart for a seventh week in a row. Konono No. 1's Live At Couleur Cafe holds on to #1 on World/Folk for a fifth week. High On Fire's Death Is The Communion has the #1 spot on the Metal/Punk chart for a third week in a row and fourth week in total. William Parker's Corn Meal Dance returns to #1 on the Jazz/Blues chart after a week's absence. M.I.A.'s Kala recaptures the #1 spot on the Electronic top 10, a position it previously held for two weeks at the end of September and beginning of October.
