Seether Find Beauty On New Album

Seether singer/guitarist Shaun Morgan is itching to get the band's new Finding Beauty In Negative Spaces album out, and he couldn't be more relieved about the big day arriving next week.
"We spent the last year writing songs and went through some personal hiccups along the way," offers Morgan. "We've been out of the scene for so long that it feels like we're finally getting back into it."
Finding Beauty In Negative Spaces is the third studio album from the South Africans. The disc follows 2003's Disclaimer and 2005's Karma And Effect, both of which have gone gold.
Howard Benson (Head Automatica, My Chemical Romance) produced the album, which will be released by Wind-Up on Oct. 23.
"We wanted to go after some of the impossible guys, but maybe it wasn't the right time," says Morgan. "Howard was great. He was a lot of fun to work with and was certainly the most talented of all the producers we've worked with until now."
With hits such as "Broken," "Remedy" and "The Gift" establishing Seether as a brooding troupe of grunge-rockers, the band opted to issue the bouncier "Fake It" as the first single from FBINS. Despite the obvious change in tone, the band want to assure fans that "Fake It" doesn't define the album.
"We've been reading some message boards and some people are saying, 'That's not Seether, man,'" says Morgan. "The song started as a joke — maybe with us joking that we should write a song girls will like — but it became serious. It's not indicative of the album as a whole."
Morgan believes that Finding Beauty In Negative Spaces' lyrics are about finding balance in life and accepting the negative with the positive.
"In a way, it's us growing up and trying to see the good and the bad. The change could be in the lyrics. We worked on them harder this time and thought about them a lot more."
Seether are about to launch a U.S. tour. Although no Canadian dates are set yet, Morgan hopes that some will be scheduled in the near future.
"I actually like the snow because we don't get that at home and it's exciting. I love the mentality of the people, too. They always have smiles on their faces."
