Kid Rock Cited By Police After Fight With Tommy Lee

Kid Rock received a police citation for misdemeanour battery after getting into a dust-up with Tommy Lee at the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday night.

Both men were in the audience at Las Vegas' Palms Hotel And Casino, where their mutual ex-wife, Pamela Anderson, was a presenter.

According to an Associated Press account of the incident, MTV VJ Sway said that Lee was sitting beside Sean "Diddy" Combs when Kid Rock (real name Robert James Ritchie) came up and hit him.

Rap producer Rich Nice said that the 36-year-old Rock gave the Motley Crue drummer a backhand slap and punched him, but that Lee was the instigator of the fracas.

"It looked like Tommy Lee initiated it because Kid Rock was ignoring him. And Tommy Lee kind of antagonized him. And then when Tommy Lee stood up, it looked a little weird, like, 'Yo, what?'

"When Tommy stands up is when Kid hit him the first time with a backhand. And then Tommy Lee looked like he was trying to get at him to aggressively retaliate and then Kid Rock hits Tommy Lee again — bong. And then security grabs Tommy Lee in a headlock and pulls him off."

The 44-year-old Lee was apparently dragged out of the venue by security guards, while Rock was allowed to stay. Though Rock received the citation, he wasn't taken into custody.

Rock could face up to six months in jail if found guilty of the charge, but police officer Bill Cassell said such a long sentence was unlikely.

Rock was absolved of allegedly assaulting a woman at his home in March, the same month he allegedly absconded with the camera of a photographer who was attempting to get a shot of him as he left Hollywood's Roosevelt Hotel at 2 a.m.

Two years ago, the rock-rapper was sued by a Nashville strip club DJ who claimed that Rock assaulted him.

While it may not have been illegal, Rock also tag-teamed four groupies on a tour bus with former Creed singer Scott Stapp in 1999, which still gets our vote for his most cringe-worthy deed ever.
