Canadian Idol Update: It All Comes Down To Bixby And Melo

Canadian Idol contestant Carly Rae Jepsen

Carly Rae Jepsen sang Dido's "White Flag" on Monday night's episode of Canadian Idol, and she waved it after being voted off the show on Tuesday.

"I'm probably happier than I have ever been, and I am so thankful for it all," Jepsen said before reprising the song and conceding defeat. "These will be memories I will have for the rest of my life, and I just want you to know how much I appreciate that."

Host Ben Mulroney seemed sad to see Jepsen go, especially after she took part in a group version of judge Sass Jordan's "I Want To Believe" and sang Natalie Imbruglia's "Torn," which she had first sung earlier in the season.

"The way you interpret lyrics and the way you really bare your soul on stage... our show is so much better for having had you on it," consoled the former prime minister's son. "You're already a budding star. It's just a matter of time before your star ascends."

Before the big decision was announced, the program showed the finalists what they have to look forward to by making them sit through performances by former Idol contestants Ryan Malcolm (with Low Level Flight), Kalan Porter and Jacob Hoggard (with Hedley).

With Jepsen's elimination after more than 4.1 million votes were cast, the testosterone will be at a high level (if Jaydee Bixby is old enough to produce much of it) as the youngster from Drumheller, Alta. squares off against Brian Melo to see who will be named this year's Canadian Idol.

They'll both head to New Jersey this week to get pointers from Bon Jovi. So, by next Monday's show, they should be experts on big hair, cougars, power ballads, dating Hollywood starlets and what the food is like in rehab.
