Neil Young's Chrome Dreams II To Come With Bonus Live Recordings

Neil Young

Neil Young's Chrome Dreams II, due on Oct. 16 from Reprise, will come bundled with a bonus CD featuring a song from his forthcoming Live At The Riverboat LP.

Young originally recorded an album called Chrome Dreams in 1977, but it was never issued. Songs slated to appear on that record that came out on later releases include "Pocahontas," "Sedan Delivery," "Powderfinger," "Look Out For My Love" and "Like A Hurricane."

The follow-up to last year's Living With War was recorded with help from Crazy Horse drummer Ralph Molina and pedal steel guitarist Ben Keith. It was produced by Young and Niko Bolas. Chrome Dreams II will feature three older songs and seven new tracks and clock in at more than an hour. One unnamed cut runs 18 minutes and 30 seconds, while another lasts 13 minutes.

Select retail outlets will receive different bonus tracks recorded at Toronto's Riverboat coffee house shortly after the break-up of Buffalo Springfield, making them some of the earliest known live recordings of the legendary singer, songwriter and guitarist. Live At The Riverboat will join the previously released Live At The Fillmore East and Live At Massey Hall in the first volume of Young's Archives boxed set series. Other expected Archives components include material recorded with Young's early Canadian band, The Squires, recordings from the time he lived in Topanga Canyon, California and previously unreleased studio tracks. Though the set has long been discussed and delayed, it now has an anticipated release date of Feb. 18.

Young is expected to mount a tour in support of Chrome Dreams II in October, but no dates have been announced. He'll perform at the annual Farm Aid benefit concert this weekend in New York City and at his annual Bridge School fundraising festival in Mountain View, California on Oct. 27 and 28.
