Breaking News: Matchbox Twenty Go Mainstream

Matchbox Twenty

Matchbox Twenty recorded six new songs for their Exile On Mainstream retrospective that will be released by Atlantic on Oct. 2.

The new cuts, produced by Steve Lillywhite (U2, Peter Gabriel), will be featured on the first CD. "How Far We've Come" has already been released as a single and video. Eleven hits from the group's catalogue are on the second disc.

"We got together for a week at my house and we all had song ideas, but they didn't sound like what we wanted to play together," singer Rob Thomas told Billboard.com of the new material. "Between that vibe and working with Steve, it's a much more raw, energetic, live-sounding record than we've done in the past."

Matchbox Twenty will make a number of U.S. television appearances around the album's release, but there are no tour plans until late next year. Thomas will spend much of 2008 working on the follow-up to his 2005 solo debut, Something To Be.
