The law cracked down on Uncle Kracker early Friday morning when he was arrested for a second-degree forcible sex offence at the Ess Lounge in Cary, N.C.
A 26-year-old woman told an off-duty police officer at the club that a man had committed a sexual act against her there. The cop and others investigated and obtained a warrant that stated there was probable cause to believe that Kracker (real name Matthew Shafer) "unlawfully, willfully and feloniously did engage in a sexual act other than vaginal intercourse" by force and against the accuser's will.
The 33-year-old singer was detained by Cary police until officers from nearby Raleigh arrived and took him to Wake County Jail. He was held on a $5 million U.S. bond, which a judge subsequently reduced to $75,000, and was released on Friday afternoon after coming up with the money.
Kracker first became known as Kid Rock's DJ before he embarked on a solo career and enjoyed hits with "Follow Me" and a cover of Dobie Gray's "Drift Away." He also had a hit duetting with country star Kenny Chesney on "When The Sun Goes Down."
