Timbaland Presents This Year's MTV Video Music Awards

Timbaland

Does anyone watch the MTV Video Music Awards anymore? Well, the show's producers have stepped up their game and are set to "revolutionize" this year's annual event.

Music producer and Nelly Furtado bud Timbaland has been hired as the two-hour show's "maestro." Slated to perform at The Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas, where the show will air live on Sept. 9, are Justin Timberlake, Foo Fighters, Kanye West, Fall Out Boy, Amy Winehouse, Rihanna, Lily Allen, Chris Brown and the maestro himself, Timbaland.

The musicians will create what are being called collaborative "one time only performances," meaning if you don't tune in on Sept. 9 you won't see the performances in their original form. Encore broadcasts will be remixed versions of the original show with bonus performances and footage that won't be seen during the live telecast and will be on-demand exclusively at MTV.ca.

In another effort to reinvent this year's popular music extravaganza, MTV pared down the categories to eight and has created four new awards: Male Artist/Female Artist Of The Year, Most Earthshattering Collaboration, Monster Single Of The Year and Quadruple Threat Award.

Leading this year's pack of nominees are Justin Timberlake and Beyonce with seven each, Kanye West with five and Amy Winehouse with three. The host and additional performers will be announced soon. The show will air on Sept. 9 at 9 p.m. ET on CTV.
