Dirty Projectors Releasing Black Flag-Inspired Record

Brooklyn, New York's Dirty Projectors will release a Black Flag-inspired album titled Rise Above on Sept. 11 through Dead Oceans.
The record was conceptualized when frontman Dave Longstreth stumbled upon an old cassette case from the vintage hardcore band's 1981 album, Damaged. The tape itself was missing, so Longstreth decided to record the songs entirely from memory on a four-track cassette recorder. Those acoustic demos recorded at Longstreth's parents' house were the basis of Rise Above, which takes its name from a track off the album.
Grizzly Bear's Chris Taylor produced the 10 tracks, which Longstreth recorded with the same musicians he played with on an American tour where he first debuted some of its songs. "No More" can be previewed on the Dirty Projectors' MySpace page.
Several of the songs from Damaged were covered in 2002 by Slipknot's Corey Taylor, Ice-T and Rancid's Tim Armstrong and Lars Frederiksen for a benefit compilation spearheaded by former Black Flag frontman Henry Rollins.
Dirty Projectors will hit the road later this month with Yacht and Vampire Weekend and have shows booked at Montreal's Casa Del Popolo on Aug. 24 and Toronto's Sneaky Dee's the next night.
Here are the songs on Rise Above:
"What I See"
"No More"
"Depression"
"Six Pack"
"Thirsty And Miserable"
"Police Story"
"Gimme Gimme Gimme"
"Spray Paint (The Walls)"
"Room 13"
"Rise Above"
