Canadian Idol Update: Cryingest Elimination Yet

Canadian Idol contestant Khalila Glanville

Would somebody please pass the tissues?

Tuesday night's Idol elimination show was a good old-fashioned sob fest from start to finish.

Host Ben Mulroney began the program by saying that the Idols had prepared a "very special musical message." This was very special show biz code for "we couldn't solidify a guest star this week and had to fill 30 minutes somehow."

In a heartwarming segment, the Idols visited some sick kids and their families at a Ronald McDonald House in London, Ont.

As ruthless as I appear to be at times, no jokes can possibly be made about sick children, dear readers. Sorry.

The cast then performed Amanda Marshall's "Believe In You," which will be released as a charity single with proceeds going towards building a Ronald McDonald House on Vancouver Island. Unsurprisingly, the performance was exceedingly schmaltzy and "hurray for everything." But I should 'fess up that I got a little misty. Anyway, their cause is a genuinely good one, so get your wallets out.

A bit of levity was introduced in the oddly named "Kraft Idol Confidential" segment. Ah, to live the Canadian Idol lifestyle. Eating tasty Jell-O and sitting around talking about important things like fame and stuff in a not-at-all forced or awkward way. To dream the impossible dream.

Then came elimination time.

The bottom three vote-getters were Martha Joy, Khalila Glanville (I called this in Tuesday's update) and Brian Melo. Thank you, Canada.

"The bottom line for me is still that issue of 'wow,'" said judge Zack Werner.

Joy was declared safe and ran back to the couches to embrace her fellow hopefuls. Meanwhile, Melo and Glanville touchingly held hands as Mulroney threw to a commercial.

Despite Glanville's stunning performance the night before, she was unjustly eliminated. Melo told Glanville that he loved her. I reached for my Prozac.

Carly Rae Jepsen cried. Joy cried. Glanville and Melo almost cried. I was close to crying. We were all thinking about babies with cancer and Glanville going home so soon and how unfair both of those things are.

Next week: Sex symbol Enrique Iglesias cheers us all up again.
