Johnny Thunders Lives Again On New DVD

One of the last concerts staged by glam-punk guitarist Johnny Thunders, recorded 20 days before his death at age 38 on April 23, 1991, will be released on DVD by MVD Visual on Aug. 28.
The show took place in Osaka, Japan's Club Citta with his backing band, the Odd Balls, and features material from his solo records, his time with New York Dolls and some covers. The 99-minute Who's Been Talking?: Johnny Thunders In Concert is presented in 5.1 surround sound.
The influential Dolls recorded two albums before breaking up, and Thunders performed and recorded with The Heartbreakers, Gang War and under his own name through the late '70s and '80s. His serious heroin addiction kept his touring and recording sporadic, but he maintained a cult following and has attained somewhat legendary status over the years.
Thunders' body was discovered at St. Peter House in New Orleans and his death was assumed to have been from drug-related causes. But a coroner reportedly found that there wasn't a fatal level of drugs in his system, and his room had been ransacked, which has led some people to believe that he may have been murdered. Police, however, never launched a criminal investigation.
