While Moby is working on a new side project called The Little Death NYC, he's been receiving correspondence from the upper tiers of American politics, including Karl Rove, one of the chief advisors to President George W. Bush.
In a rather bizarre story relayed on Moby's website on Wednesday, he went to the Friends Of God documentary directed by Alexandra Pelosi, the daughter of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. After the film, the musician and director went to a Washington D.C. bar which "was crowded with an interesting and disparate bunch of people," including politicians and journalists.
Moby told one journalist how he had a half-brother somewhere, but never met him. After the journalist asked him who it might be, the musician jokingly suggested it might be Rove. A week later, the reporter wrote the story for the Politico.com website.
"A few weeks go by and I get a letter from the White House," Moby wrote. "I was a bit surprised, especially as the envelope looked as if it was from 1952.
"I open the envelope and read the letter (also on stationary from 1952). 'Dear Moby (or is that Mr. Moby): It's not me. I have no musical ability and am 19 years older (assuming you're 37). So you can breathe easier. On the other hand, (Democratic advisor) James Carville is musically-inclined and bald, too. Do you like crawfish etouffee? Sincerely, Karl Rove.'"
Moby says he was "a bit stunned" by the letter and called Alexandra Pelosi to verify if it was authentic, which it was.
"I was also a bit stunned because the letter was funny," he wrote. "Karl Rove is funny?"
