Fergie Sells Out, Even More

Fergie will reportedly receive $4 million U.S. from Candie's to incorporate lyrics about the company's teen-oriented fashions, shoes and fragrances into her songs.
The Black Eyed Peas member and solo star has already licensed her image and excerpts from her song "Big Girls Don't Cry" for Candie's current advertising campaign. Hilary Duff, Destiny's Child, The Dixie Chicks and Jenny McCarthy have previously plugged Candie's, but none have sold-out to the extent of Stacy Ann Ferguson.
The singer apparently has the support of her label, as an Interscope spokesperson had this to say about the deal:
"With record sales in decline, you must find novel ways to make money out of the music. The trick is to make the brand part of the song so that it slips down easily rather than chokes the fan. Candie's will reach teens, but it has no say over exactly what Fergie will sing, or when. Fans might think she is just singing about candy. But it's got to work in the song. Fergie does not sing jingles."
"Big Girls Don't Cry" refers to the Uno card game, "All That I Got (The Make Up Song)" name-checks L'Oreal and "London Bridge" uses Grey Goose vodka in its lyrics, so the 32-year-old sex symbol was already off to a good start as a corporate shill with songs from her album The Dutchess even if she doesn't consider herself a jingle singer.
If Fergie runs out of clever, corporate-pushing lyrical ideas, she can always look for help from Black Eyed Peas collaborator Will.i.am., who misspells "tasty" all the way through "Fergalicious." Or she could make the smallest of changes to the words and probably fulfill her contract by covering The Strangeloves' "I Want Candy" or New Edition's "Candy Girl."
