Weezer Recording Sixth Album

Rumours regarding a sixth Weezer album can now be put to rest, as work on a new record has been confirmed.

This note from frontman Rivers Cuomo — titled Yams, Clams, Flans, Plans, Shams, Crans and Glands — was posted on the band's website on Monday: "Weezer is just polishing up a batch of songs for a recording session that is going to start at the beginning of July. This will be the final recording session for our 6th album which we aim to put out in the first half of 2008. We hope you are all having good times."

The post includes a photo of a boy who looks like he could be a young Cuomo.

The band's status has been up in the air ever since a farewell quote from Shakespeare's The Tempest appeared in the liner notes of 2005's Make Believe. More recently, however, fans discovered that the albumsix.com website links directly to Weezer's site.

The band members have been keeping busy with side projects. Guitarist Brian Bell formed The Relationship and drummer Patrick Wilson is a member of The Special Goodness.

Cuomo announced last year that he had been writing and recording songs at his in-laws' in Japan. An acoustic demo of "Pig" circulated online in April, but it's not known if the track will appear on the band's new album.

Former Weezer bassist Matt Sharp will release The Last Little Life EP with his band The Rentals on Aug. 14.
