Secret City Signs The Go! Team And Plants And Animals

Montreal's Secret City Records has added Brighton, England's The Go! Team and Montreal trio Plants And Animals to boost a roster that already includes Patrick Watson and Miracle Fortress.

Secret City will be the Canadian home for pop/hip-hop sextet The Go! Team. The band are signed to Sup Pop in the U.S. and Memphis Industries in the U.K. Their 2004 Thunder, Lightning, Strike debut was released in North America by Columbia. The group will release their sophomore album, Proof Of Youth, on Sept. 11.

The record's guests include Public Enemy's Chuck D, Bonde Do Role's Marina, the Double Dutch Divas, Solex, Rapper's Delight Club and the Frederick Douglas All Star Cheer Team. The video for first single "Grip Like A Vice" is featured on the band's MySpace page. Memphis Industries will release the track on July 2 and follow it with "Doing It Right" on Sept. 3.

The Go! Team will play the European festival circuit this summer.

Plants And Animals are Warren Spicer (vocals, guitar), Nicolas Basque (guitar, bass) and Matthew "The Woodman" Woodley (drums). Their debut LP is being produced by Spicer and is expected to arrive in early 2008. Spicer has also produced records for folk-oriented artists Orillia Opry and Dave Macleod.
