Fresh off their release of U23D's world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival last month comes word that U2 have been writing songs with producers Daniel Lanois and Brian Eno.
According to the band's official website, they've been writing and recording "from morning til night for the past couple of weeks" at a studio the group set up in the Moroccan city of Fez.
"There's no word on what the new material is for," a source close to the band said on the site. "But they're on a roll and the ideas are coming thick and fast."
Drummer Larry Mullen Jr. shed more light on the proceedings in his own post.
"It's the first time we've worked with Brian and Dan in a purely songwriting capacity," he wrote. "So it's very different, quite experimental and kind of liberating because of that."
There's no plan as to when the group will release their next album.
"We have no plans for the music yet," Bono posted. "We're just going to make it until we can't not put it out!"
U2 previously worked with both Lanois and Eno on The Joshua Tree, Zooropa and All That You Can't Leave Behind.
The Irish band recorded a cover of John Lennon's "Instant Karma" for a recently released Amnesty International benefit album. They released their last studio album, How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb, in 2004. The U218 Singles compilation, featuring new songs "The Saints Are Coming" and "Window In The Skies," came out last year.
