Gogol Bordello Intend To Cure World Of Hysteria With New Album

Super Taranta!, Gogol Bordello's eagerly awaited follow-up to the high-octane Gypsy Punks, will arrive in stores via Sideonedummy on July 10.
The album was recorded in New York City and produced by the band and Victor Van Vugt (Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds, PJ Harvey). The group lineup for the LP included mastermind Eugene Hutz (vocals, guitar, percussion), Sergey Rjabtzev (violin), Yuri Lemeshev (accordion), Eliot Ferguson (drums), Oren Kaplan (guitar), Tommy Gobena (bass) and dancer/percussionists Elizabeth Sun and Pamela Jintana Racine.
The album title is adapted from tarantella, a rapidly paced traditional Italian style of music and whirling dance that was once thought to cure women of hysteria.
"Super Taranta! is a Gogol Bordello proposition to beat global tensions and hysteria by transforming all negative energy into positive, as tarantella did in its origin," says Hutz. "Gogol Bordello is known for talking about sex, politics, life and the mysteries surrounding our existence, all while showing our original and strong visions of the new rebel intelligence — the ability of an individual to interpret actions and objects personally despite authoritarian and informational hysteria."
Gogol Bordello formed in New York City in 1999 and are considered pioneers of the gypsy punk genre. They've toured extensively over the past two years and have acquired a reputation as one of the most entertaining and theatrical live bands around. They'll tour throughout the summer, with Canadian stops at Quebec City's Festival D'ete on July 12 and the Ottawa Bluesfest the following day.
