New Releases: There Are Five Tuesdays This Month

Perry Farrell's Satellite Party

You're probably wondering what the headline above has to do with anything. Well, it's like this: one of three things happened this week. 1) The music industry had a busy early May and needs a week off to recover before a busy June that includes releases from The White Stripes, Queens Of The Stone Age and The Chemical Brothers; 2) They forgot there were five Tuesdays this May; or 3) Releasing CDs the day after the Memorial Day weekend probably means working extra hard on Friday or coming in on your day off, and nobody wants to do that. I'm guessing it's probably #1 or #3, but you never know.

Anyway, there are a couple of discs worth noting this week. The first belongs to Satellite Party, the new project from Jane's Addiction/Porno For Pyros/Lollapalooza svengali Perry Farrell. Ultra Payloaded features guest appearances aplenty, and Farrell still has some pipes, so it's a fair bet that PFP and JA fans will find something to like on the disc — or not, since it's nothing like either of those bands.

The only other big new CD this week belongs to everyone's favourite serial R&B superstar, R. Kelly. Double Up is a lot less operatic than Trapped In The Closet, but, given his notoriety in the last few years, it's unlikely that it will sell any less.

Here are some of this week's other releases:

BRANT BJORK & THE BROS Somera Sol (Cobraside)
DANZIG The Lost Tracks Of Danzig (Evillive/Megaforce/KOCH)
DRIVER SIDE IMPACT The Very Air We Breathe (Victory/KOCH)
