Frog Eyes Go Through #1 Revolving Door First This Week

Like horse racing's triple crown races, the top of the national campus radio chart continues to see bands go back and forth in the run for first place. Rather than there being one dominant album catching the interest of Canadian radio programmers, there have been battles between regionally disparate bands.
Over the past four weeks, there have been four different chart-toppers. Last week it was the designated import, Blonde Redhead's 23, holding down top spot. This week the west coast contender, Frog Eyes' Tears Of The Valedictorian, moves up one place to grab the top honour, pushing Blonde Redhead to #2. Feist's The Reminder is stalled at #3, followed by Joel Plaskett Emergency's Ashtray Rock (which was numero uno two weeks ago) at #4. Rising a spot to #5 is You Say Party! We Say Die!'s Lose All Time (which was #1 a week before Plaskett). It's followed by Wooden Stars' People Are Different, which climbs three spots to #6. Arctic Monkeys' Favourite Worst Nightmare jumps seven places to #7, with Arcade Fire's Neon Bible continuing to remain near the top of the charts at #8 in its 12th week. Elliott Smith's New Moon rockets up 23 places to #9 and Dog Day's Night Group slips three spots to #10.
The Chart Sizzler Award almost snuck into the top 10, as Bjork's Volta enters at #11. The album garnered some impressive chart numbers from individual stations, including #1s at CITR (UBC) and CHYZ (Laval). Coming in a distant second among new entries is D.O.A.'s Punk Rock Singles 1978-1999 at #19. Tinariwen's Aman Iman: Water Is Life debuts at #26, Green Go's self-titled album arrives at #31, Abdominal's Escape From The Pigeon Hole checks in at #36 and Naw's City Saturate enters at #39.
Three of the five specialty charts have new #1s. Chromeo's Fancy Footwork moves up two places to take over the top on the Electronic top 10, Brassmunk's Fewturistic rises eight positions to land at #1 on the Hip-Hop chart and Tinariwen's Aman Iman: Water Is Life returns to the peak of the World chart after a week's absence. Remaining at #1 are Dimmu Borgir's In Sorte Diaboli on the Metal/Punk chart and Mike Allen Quartet's Vancouver on the Jazz/Blues countdown.
