Danny Michel and Emm Gryner Get Under The Covers With CBC Radio Show

Singer/songwriters Danny Michel and Emm Gryner have received approval from CBC Radio to host a new program called Under The Covers that "explores the world of cover songs."

According to a recent post on Michel's website, the aim is to have a musical guest each week perform a cover or reveal what they thought of another artist doing their songs. Luther Wright appeared on the pilot episode and talked about covering Pink Floyd's The Wall for his band's stripped-down acoustic album, Rebuild The Wall.

"The show is a lot of fun," Michel wrote. "We started with Aretha Franklin and ended with Devo. Between our rock n' Rolodexes we're aiming for some pretty serious names as guests."

The program has yet to go into production, largely because the two hosts haven't found time to do it.

"My schedule is jammed for the next three months and so is Emm's," wrote Michel. "Worst case, we record it later in the year and it'll air down the road."

Michel just released a CD/DVD package called Danny Michel And The Black Tornados that was culled from two shows recorded in Toronto. The 30-track effort features appearances by Gryner, Luke Doucet, Kevin Fox, Kurt Swinghammer and Erin McKeown.

ryner will play a handful of dates in Ireland this month before returning for a fundraiser in Sarnia, Ontario on May 23. According to Gryner's website, she recently finished writing a song called "Last Day On Earth" that she says "might qualify as 'up-tempo.'" She also sings on "I Don't Want To Be Just Friends," the new single from Stratford, Ont. alternative pop band Brittlestar.
