Since the news broke last year that The Smashing Pumpkins would reform, frontman Billy Corgan and drummer Jimmy Chamberlin have been driving fans nuts with a run of spaced-out blog posts containing a slow trickle of information about their upcoming album. But now, the track list for Zeitgeist has been finalized.
The album is scheduled to be released by Martha's Music/Reprise on July 7, which is a Saturday instead of the industry standard Tuesday. Chamberlin and Corgan handled the bulk of the production work themselves, but producers Roy Thomas Baker (Ozzy Osbourne, Queen) and Terry Date (Soundgarden, Pantera) lent their skills to a few tracks as well.
Chamberlin, the drummer for Corgan's post-Pumpkins band Zwan, immediately jumped on board when Corgan announced his intention to reunite the Pumpkins. Guitarist James Iha has said he won't rejoin the band. There's been no word from bassist D'arcy Wretzky, who's long been estranged from Corgan and has largely been out of the public eye since her departure from the band in 1999.
Wretzky's replacement, Melissa Auf Der Maur, has expressed interest in recording and touring with the Pumpkins again. But Corgan and Chamberlin are the only names publicly attached to the project at this point.
The reassembled Pumpkins are set to headline Montreal's Osheaga Music And Arts Festival on Sept. 8, and will play Toronto's Virgin Festival the next day.
Here are the tracks on Zeitgeist:
"Doomsday Clock"
"7 Shades Of Black"
"Orchid"
"That's The Way"
"Tarantula"
"Starz"
"United States"
"Never Lost"
"Bring The Light"
"Come On (Let's Go)"
"For God And Country"
"Pomp And Circumstance"
