Police Altercation, But No Hilary Duff Death Threats, Outside MuchMusic

Hilary Duff

While Hilary Duff may be a refreshing breath of sanity in comparison with the likes of Britney Spears and Lindsay Lohan, the young singer/actress sure attracts some crazies.

Duff was being interviewed by Leah Miller and promoting her new Dignity album at MuchMusic on Tuesday when it was originally reported that an unidentified man in the large crowd gathered outside the studio allegedly started yelling death threats at the 19-year-old.

But Much released a statement on Thursday morning saying that no threat was made on the young star. According to CHUM Television music and youth services operations director Neil State, police said they "detained an individual who was walking in traffic and the incident was totally unrelated to the event taking place at MuchMusic" and that "this person was shouting with no specific threat directed at anyone in particular."

A witness reported that several police officers tackled the man who was shouting.

"The cops slammed his face into the pavement," photographer Todd Gillis said in a CanWest News Service article. "He was bleeding."

A police spokesperson said there was no report of an arrest being made.

Duff, who will replace Ben Mulroney for a night and co-host CTV's eTalk with Tanya Kim on Thursday, was previously plagued by a stalker in California. Maksim Myaskovsky broke a restraining order that Duff had filed against him and was arrested for stalking and making criminal threats in November. He pleaded no contest to the charges in January and was sentenced to 117 days behind bars and five years probation.

While we're on the topic of crazies, Duff's former boyfriend, Good Charlotte's Joel Madden, remains with his current flame, Nicole Richie.
