Flaming Lips Offer U.F.O.s At The Zoo On First Live DVD

The Flaming Lips

The Flaming Lips' Oklahoma City, Oklahoma homecoming concert last year was captured on video, so non-Okies will be able to share in the unique experience when the group's first live DVD hits stores on July 10.

U.F.O.s At The Zoo: The Legendary Concert In Oklahoma City was recorded on Sept. 15. It was the band's first local show in several years, and the ever-colourful and imaginative group used the occasion to play both crowd favourites and rarely performed numbers from their early years. The DVD features live tracks interspersed with backstage footage and a look at the day's events leading up to the concert.

Everything will be released on a single disc using the new Music Video Interactive format and will come packaged in a slightly larger than normal jewel case with an art booklet. The disc will include the entire concert, MP3s of the audio, digital artwork and an application that will allow fans to make and buy their own Lips ringtones from a choice of 13 studio tracks. It will also contain a PDF file of the booklet, Buddy icons, photos and various other digital extras.

A trailer for the DVD can be seen here. The Lips won two Grammy Awards earlier this year for their At War With The Mystics album, and main man Wayne Coyne is working on a Broadway musical version of their 2002 album, Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots.

The band are planning a large-scale tour for this summer, but no dates have been announced.
