Marilyn Manson has released some disturbing details about the inspiration for writing his Eat Me, Drink Me album that's set for release on June 5.
The record was written after Halloween following the opening of his Los Angeles art gallery.
"I was writing out of desperation and hope," Manson says on his website. "The record came out in a rush — like an open wound — and I went with it."
Manson was apparently inspired in part by a close friend's request to stab her.
"She picked up a butcher's knife and said, 'Here, you can stab me,'" he says. "When someone was willing to drown with me, I really didn't want to drown anymore."
Although the track list has yet to be officially announced, a dedicated Manson fan site called MansonUSA.com has revealed the 11 tracks that are said to comprise the new album. Manson describes the song "Putting Holes In Happiness" as "a romantic-misogynistic-cannibal-gothic-vampire-ballad."
The first single will be "Heart-Shaped Glasses (When The Heart Guides The Hand)." Manson made a 3D video for the song by using part of a 3D horror movie he's filming.
Manson will mount a co-headlining North American tour this summer with Slayer. Although no cities have been announced, the tour is expected to hit 25 cities and begin on July 25 on the U.S. east coast. Manson will embark on a European tour next month.
Manson (real name Brian Warner) was served with divorce papers by wife Dita Von Teese early this year and was rumoured to be dating young actress Evan Rachel Wood.
Here is the unconfirmed track list for Eat Me, Drink Me:
"If I Was Your Vampire"
"Putting Holes In Happiness"
"The Red Carpet Grave"
"They Said That Hell's Not Hot"
"Just A Car Crash Away"
"Heart-Shaped Glasses (When The Heart Guides The Hand)"
"Evidence""Are You The Rabbit?"
"Mutilation Is The Most Sincere Form Of Flattery"
"You And Me And The Devil Makes 3""Eat Me, Drink Me"
