Religion Trumps Partying, As Neon Bible Stays At #1

Person Pitch

After taking a month to hit the top of the top 50 chart, Arcade Fire's Neon Bible is doing its best to remain there. Last week it accumulated 1,750 points to grab #1. It follows this week with 1,615 points, to outdistance a surging You Say Party! We Say Die!, whose new Lose All Time album jumps four spots to grab the #2 position. February's top album, Julie Doiron's Woke Myself Up, experiences a resurgence in popularity and moves up four spots to #3, while Do Make Say Think's You, You're A History In Rust slips two places to #4.

Peter, Bjorn & John's Writer's Block remains stuck at #5, followed by last week's Chart Sizzler, LCD Soundsystem's Sound Of Silver — which rockets up 18 places to #6. Apostle Of Hustle's National Anthem Of Nowhere tumbles four spots to #7, paralleling The Besnard Lakes' The Besnard Lakes Are The Dark Horse's drop to #8. Bloc Party's A Weekend In The City rises a place to #9 and is followed by Great Lake Swimmers' Ongiara, which climbs two spots to reach the top 10.

The Chart Sizzler Award goes to Panda Bear's Person Pitch, which debuts at #14 after appearing on nine individual charts, including: #9 on CHUO (Ottawa), #10 on CFRU (Guelph), #11 on CKUT (McGill) and #12 on CFCR (Saskatoon). Other key debuts this week include Low's Drums And Guns at #18, Modest Mouse's We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank at #19, Kill The Lights' Buffalo Of Love at #27 and Chet's Fight Against Darkness at #37.

There are also a couple of re-entries that last appeared on the top 50 many weeks ago. Reappearing at #39 is The Golden Dogs' Big Eye, Little Eye, which last graced the top 50 during the week of November 24, 2006. Fifteen weeks of charts have passed between appearances for Thunder Bay's best wedding band. Big Eye, Little Eye's re-entry means that it has been in the top 50 for 15 weeks, giving The Golden Dogs the most number of weeks on the current chart, easily distancing the 10 weeks by Doiron's Woke Myself Up. Re-entering at #43 is Moses Mayes' Second Ring, which last appeared during the week of January 12 — eight charts ago.

There wasn't much change at the top of the specialty charts this week. Four of the five top 10 charts have the same #1 as last week. LCD Soundsystem's Sound Of Silver tops the Electronic chart, while The End's Elementary continues to control the Metal/Punk top 10. The reissued version of Antibalas Afrobeat Orchestra's Security remains atop the World/Folk chart and the Dig Your Roots: Creative Jazz compilation continues to rule the Jazz/Blues roost for a sixth straight week. The only new #1 is on the Hip-Hop chart, where El-P's I'll Sleep When You're Dead enters at that spot, an occurrence that's becoming more common recently. In fact, it's happened on one of the specialty charts in each of the past four weeks.
