Tegan And Sara Set To Win Hearts With The Con

Tegan And Sara

Tegan And Sara fans, hang onto your asymmetrical haircuts: the Calgary wonder twins have recorded an album called The Con with an impressive list of collaborators.

The July 24 MapleMusic release features Matt Sharp (The Rentals, Weezer), who contributed Moog to the duo's 2004 So Jealous album. This time he played bass, as did AFI's Hunter Burgan. Death Cab For Cutie's Jason McGerr did some drumming and the Quin sisters co-produced the record with Death Cab guitarist and indie producer-for-hire Chris Walla (The Decemberists). The Con was written during a break from the almost non-stop touring that followed the release of So Jealous. The sisters spent nine months writing and recording demos, then pared them down before heading to Portland, Oregon to record the LP in Walla's new Alberta Court studio.

The duo plan to visit both coasts of Canada and the U.S. this summer after the album's release. Sara Quin promised on the band's MySpace blog, that there will be "small shows (like really small) and lots of in-store performances at great indie record shops."

A bigger North American tour will follow in the fall.

Tegan And Sara have been nominated for a Juno Award for their It's Not Fun — Don't Do It! DVD.
