Justice Blame British Airways For Abandoning Vinyl

In the sweaty and crowded world of electronic dance music, there are rumblings of a new French house movement. It's a second wave that's been building up steam for a while now within the international dance community and the blogosphere. Leading the way and fuelling the excitement of said wave are Parisian distorted disco duo Justice. But don't hold them responsible for it; they don't even believe it's going to happen.
"In 1997, when guys like Daft Punk and Cassius were putting music out, electronic music wasn't popular," Xavier De Rosnay, one half of the twosome explains in his thick French accent. "Now, it's been 10 years and electronic music has become really common party music, so to recreate the same revolution and have the same impact is almost impossible because people are used to it.
"But I hope we're still gonna find our way to make music today."
Like Daft Punk on steroids, Justice screeched their way into the electro scene with a heartbeat-skipping remix of now-defunct U.K. act Simian's "We Are Your Friends." They've since released the cult status club staple "Waters Of Nazareth" and remixed for the likes of DFA 1979, Soulwax, Britney Spears and Franz Ferdinand."
From the beginning, as I was in school when we started to do Justice, I didn't have time to make music because I wanted to graduate first," De Rosnay says. "As I was working as a graphic designer on the side, we've never been in need of money so we've always been lucky to choose the songs we want to do."
We don't remix for money, we do them for artists we really love. But for the last year we haven't done any because we're working on the album."
The highly anticipated debut full-length is should arrive in June, and De Rosnay says it will be a highly disco-fied affair. "We've kept on the three previously released songs. The rest is new. It's much more disco, especially the next single that we're going to put out called 'D.A.N.C.E.,' which is a track sung by a kids choir."
Justice are also helping headline the North America Ed Banger tour this spring, where these all-digital garage band fans won't bring their vinyl to play. "Now we use 100 per cent CDs when DJing," De Rosnay says. "We used to play only with vinyl, and one day we went to the U.K. with British Airways and they lost my records two times in two days.
"After this adventure we decided to play only with CDs because we can keep them with us, and we discovered you can do a lot more with them. So thank you British Airways for letting me feel alive."
Here are the Canadian Ed Banger/Justice tour dates:
March 25 Vancouver, BC @ Royal Unicorn Cabaret
March 30 Toronto, ON @ Mod Club
March 31 Montreal, QC @ Club Soda
