Do Make Say Think Make Rusty History By Reaching The Top

The Besnard Lakes Are The Dark Horse

For the third week in a row, there's a new #1 album on the top 50 chart. Do Make Say Think's You, You're A History In Rust takes over the top after moving up two spots. Julie Doiron's Woke Myself Up remains at #2 and last week's #1, Apostle Of Hustle's National Anthem Of Nowhere, slips to #3. Racing from #23 up to #4 is Arcade Fire's Neon Bible. Of Montreal's Hissing Fauna, Are You The Destroyer? drops a spot to #5, while Peter, Bjorn & John's Writer's Block rises two spots to #6. The Good, The Bad & The Queen's eponymous release drops two places to #7, Mother Mother's Touch Up rises two notches to #8 and Great Lake Swimmers' Ongiara slides down two positions to #9. Deerhoof's Friend Opportunity drops four spots to #10.
The highest debut belongs to The Besnard Lakes' The Besnard Lakes Are The Dark Horse at #11. It garnered some major airplay from all of the campus/community stations in Montreal. CJLO (Concordia) ranked it at #1, CKUT (McGill) placed it at #2, CISM (L'Universite De Montreal) placed it at #22 and independent community station CIBL ranked it at #25. Outside of Canada's second largest city, The Besnard Lakes' album received top 10 placings at CJAM (Windsor), CHYZ (Laval) and CJSR (Alberta).

The second highest debut is Andrew Bird's Armchair Apocrypha at #16, while !!!'s Myth Takes enters at #22 and Jesu's Conqueror comes in at #31. Ojos De Brujo's Techari was a recent #1 on the World/Folk chart, and it debuts at #45, one place ahead of Bonobo's Days To Come, which is the new #1 on the Electronic top 10.

Speaking of the specialty charts, outside of Bonobo's three-place jump, there are two other new #1s. Antibalas Afrobeat Orchestra's Security jumps nine places to top the World/Folk chart. Ghettosocks' Get Some Friends garners enough support from hip-hop shows across the nation to debut at #1 on the Hip-Hop top 10. This album has been appearing on a couple of east coast station's charts since the middle of November, so it's a bit of a surprise to see it finally gaining national attention. The End's Elementary continues to dominate the Metal/Punk chart and the National Campus And Community Radio Association-funded Dig Your Roots: Creative Jazz compilation tops the Jazz/Blues top 10 for the second straight week.
