Hot Hot Heat In The Happiness Business With New Album

Hot Hot Heat

Vancouver rock band Hot Hot Heat have completed work on their new album, Happiness Ltd.

Lead singer/keyboardist Steve Bays mentioned the title in a recent post on the band's MySpace page. "Everything just seemed to happen so quickly and all of a sudden we realized we've been working on this record for two years!" Bays wrote. "Whenever we thought it was done, something new would delay it.

"We actually finished the record in June — it was mixed and mastered and ready to go — until we wrote a song called 'Let Me In," and decided that HAD to be on the record. And that opened up Pandora's Box...we were writing all these new songs and the new direction of the album was unavoidable; we had to follow it out to see where it would go.

"Normally each person has the songs they love and the songs they could live without; but the goal of this record was to put out something with unanimous excitement. So in retrospect I'm grateful for every delay — they were all musical delays and it led to an album that all four of us actually love from beginning to end — and that's usually a hard thing to stumble upon."

Hot Hot Heat's first confirmed performance of 2007 is at Vancouver's Thunderbird Stadium on May 21 as part of the Virgin Festival. The group, whose last album was 2005's Elevator, are in the early stages of planning a world tour for the summer.

Bays recently remixed The Killers single "Read My Mind" for a new EP that's available only through iTunes. Other remixers on the Killers EP include The Pet Shop Boys and Like Rebel Diamond.
