Moby Only Has 400 Songs To Pare Down For Next Album

Some musicians struggle to make records, churning out two or three songs on each album that are at best described as filler to hit the obligatory 10 or 11 tracks. Fortunately, Moby doesn't have that problem. The artist is working on a new studio album that he plans to release later this year. He hasn't had any sort of creator's block, unless you consider roughly 30 albums worth of tracks a slow brainstorming session.
"As always I have about 400 songs that I'm trying to narrow down to the 20 or so that will comprise the next record," Moby wrote recently on his website's blog. "I don't know when the record will come out, September, maybe?
"But September's a tricky time to release a record, cos everyone puts out records in September. So suddenly my little record is competing with the heavy hitters. So we'll see."
The album would be Moby's first new effort since 2005's Hotel. A special Moby: Live The Hotel Tour 2005 CD/DVD package was released in Europe early last year. The musician also released Go — The Very Best Of Moby, which included the new song "New York, New York" featuring Blondie lead singer Debbie Harry.
Go — The Very Best Of Moby: Remixed comes out in Europe this week, but not here, where he's now label-less since V2 Records essentially closed shop earlier this year.
"Sorry North America," Moby wrote on his blog. "I guess the man doesn't want you to have a disco party."
