Burlington, Ontario emo/punk band Silverstein are in Los Angeles recording their new and as-yet untitled studio album.

"All of the new songs sound great and we're really excited about how everything has turned out in the writing process," drummer Paul Koehler wrote on the band's website. "We are very excited to share these new songs with all of you!

"It feels weird having not toured in so long, but we promise that we'll be touring all over the world as soon as this album is finished."

The group started pre-production on the album in late February and plan to work on it until late April. The band are collaborating with producer Mark Trombino (Jimmy Eat World, Blink-182) on the project, which is expected to be released sometime this summer. A full-scale North American tour is also expected then.

The album will be the band's first since Discovering The Waterfront was released in 2005. A special CD/DVD edition, featuring a live performance recorded in Chicago, was released last September.

Although the band have no Canadian shows coming up in the near future, there are three gigs confirmed for May: an appearance at the Bamboozle Festival in East Rutherford, New Jersey on May 6 and two shows in Mexico on May 11 and 12. Silverstein performed at Toronto's El Mocambo in mid-February to support the Skate4Cancer charity's "Cure Is Knowledge Campaign."
