Former Guided By Voices singer Robert Pollard has never been afraid to release new material, and he's not about to stop that trend now. Pollard will issue Silverfish Trivia, a seven-song mini album, on his own Prom Is Coming label on April 17.
According to Pollard's website, this first release on the label is "lush with the beautiful string arrangements that book end this (mini) album, 'Come Outside' and 'Speak In Many Colors.'"
Chris George of Invert contributed the string arrangements.
Pollard and producer Todd Tobias were the main participants on the album, which is anchored by the eight-minute psychedelic track, "Cats Love A Parade."
Silverfish Trivia will be distributed globally by Revolver and will be available through Pollard's website. It's his third solo record since last year, when Normal Happiness and From A Compound Eye both came out through Merge. A Moon: Robert Pollard Live bonus disc was also included with Normal Happiness. The live CD was recorded during Pollard's opening slot for Pearl Jam last June in Cincinnati.
Pollard has already written 28 songs for his next Merge album, which is tentatively titled Standard Gargoyle Decisions and expected to arrive sometime in September.
Circus Devils, Pollard's collaborative project with Tobias, will release the 32-song Sgt. Disco album through Ipecac in July.
Pollard is included in a new John Sellers book, Perfect From Now On: How Indie Rock Saved My Life, which features several chapters dedicated to Pollard, Guided By Voices and the band's final home stretch on its "Electrifying Conclusion Tour." GBV disbanded following a New Year's Eve gig in Chicago in 2004. Other bands featured in the book include My Bloody Valentine, The Smiths, Sonic Youth, U2 and Joy Division.
Here are the songs on Silverfish Trivia:
"Come Outside"
"Circle Saw Boys Club"
"Wickerman Smile"
"Touched To Be Sure"
"Waves, Etc."
"Cats Love A Parade"
"Speak In Many Colors"
