Nelly Furtado Reps Canada At Brit Awards

The Arctic Monkeys, Take That and a Portuguese girl from one of the colonies were among those with big smiles on their faces at Wednesday's Brit Awards ceremony at Earls Court in London.
Nelly Furtado happily accepted her trophy for best international female solo artist and called the Brit experience "thrilling" on her website. She was particularly excited about Oasis' presence, as they received a special award for their outstanding contribution to music and closed the show with a five-song performance that included "Cigarettes And Alcohol," "Don't Look Back In Anger" and "Rock 'N' Roll Star."
"Ten years after writing him my first fan letter, I finally met Liam Gallagher," Furtado gushed.
Sheffield's Arctic Monkeys basked in the glory of winning best British group and British album for Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not, while Las Vegas rockers The Killers took the awards for top international group and international album for Sam's Town. Although the Monkeys weren't able to attend the ceremony, their pre-recorded acceptance speeches made in Village People and Wizard Of Oz costumes added an interesting twist to the night.
Nineties boy-band Take That continued an impressive comeback without Robbie Williams, as "Patience" won the award for top British single and the group performed. Amy Winehouse solidified her rising popularity when she was named best British female solo artist and sang her hit single, "Rehab." Scissor Sisters, Corinne Bailey Rae, Snow Patrol, Red Hot Chili Peppers and The Killers also played on the show.
