Land Of Talk, Kill The Lights, Simon Wilcox And Silversun Pickups Sign With Maple

Kill The Lights

Toronto's MapleMusic Recordings has added four more acts to its roster and welcomed Land Of Talk, Kill The Lights, Simon Wilcox and Silversun Pickups to the family.

Montreal's Land Of Talk released their Applause Boo Cheer Hiss debut EP last year, and we named them one of the top 12 acts expected to make a big breakthrough in 2007. The Lizzie Powell-fronted trio have signed a U.S. deal with The Rebel Group in addition to its Canadian pact with Maple. The band will perform at the Chart Canadian Music Week showcase at Toronto's Horseshoe Tavern on March 9.

Another Chart pick to click in 2007, Kill The Lights, have also signed on the dotted line with Maple. They self-released their homemade Winter Asthmatics EP two years ago and Maple will oversee the distribution of their forthcoming Buffalo Of Love album. The disc's first single will be "Skinny White Girls."

Simon Wilcox, the daughter of bug-eyed blues-rocker and man who lays pipe all night long David Wilcox, has carved out a name for herself as a singer/songwriter by releasing two solo albums. Her third, The Charm And The Strange, will be released by Maple this spring.

Wilcox worked with Peter Wilkinson and Simon Finley (Echo And The Bunnymen, The Hours) on the LP, which includes guest contributions from two-time Juno Award nominee Tomi Swick and The Miniatures' Ian Smith.

Los Angeles group Silversun Pickups have become Maple's first non-Canadian signing. The band have caused a buzz with their "Lazy Eye" single/video from last year's Carnavas album, which was released in Canada through Fontana North.

The Maple label is also home to The Dears, Pilot Speed, Joel Plaskett, Martha Wainwright and Kathleen Edwards.
