Canadian punk rock godfather Joey "Shithead" Keithley has formed a west coast music collective to record his new album, which is appropriately titled Band Of Rebels.
The longtime D.O.A. frontman and political activist has been in Vancouver's Profile Studios for the past couple of months recording and co-producing the album with Chon for his Sudden Death label. He calls his new material "wild, upbeat and funny" and a combination of "punkabilly, rock, punk-folk and ska. The LP is scheduled for a June release.
While Keithley handles vocals, guitar and bass, his band of rebels are comprised of: drummer/vocalist The Great Baldini (D.O.A., Dog Eat Dogma); stand-up bassist Jeremy Holmes (Bughouse Five, Bocephus King); bassist/vocalist Randy Rampage (D.O.A., Annihilator); keyboardist Chris Gestrin (Jim Byrnes Band); violinist Jesse Zubot (Zubot And Dawson); singer Kevin Kane (Grapes Of Wrath); trumpeter John Korsrud (Hard Rubber Orchestra); saxophonist Bill Runge (Hard Rubber Orchestra); vocalist Kuba Oms; percussionist Liam MacDonald (Bughouse Five); and vocalist Adam Nation.
D.O.A. will headline both afternoon and evening concerts dubbed "Punk Rock Confidential" at Vancouver's Richard's On Richards on Saturday. The shows have added significance because they'll mark the first performances in 30 years from original Vancouver punks The Furies. Mongoose and Rebel Spell are on the bill for the early show, while First Reign and Rebel Spell will take the stage at night.
