The Cult Issuing Live DVD And Starting Work On New Album

The Cult

The Cult plan to release a new DVD and studio album, their first since 2001's Beyond Good And Evil.

According to The Cult's website, the DVD is "currently being edited and completed," with a release date tentatively set for sometime in April. The DVD material was taken from the band's performance last November at New York City's Irving Plaza, which was filmed by Live Nation. The British group performed 19 songs that evening, including "She Sells Sanctuary," "Edie (Ciao Baby)," "Spiritwalker" and "Love Removal Machine."

The DVD isn't the first for the group. The Cult — Live Cult (Music Without Fear) was released in 2002 and featured current Velvet Revolver and former Guns N' Roses drummer Matt Sorum in the lineup. The band's Anthology DVD was issued in 2001.

The Cult — comprised of lead singer Ian Astbury, guitarist Billy Duffy, drummer John Tempesta and bassist Chris Wyse — are heading into the studio next month to start pre-production work on the new LP before recording starts. There's no word on when the album will be released.

The group are expected to perform at various European festivals this summer, including one in Serbia with Deep Purple, The Stooges, Foo Fighters and Prodigy, among others. Earlier this month, Astbury toured Europe with Riders Of The Storm, the group featuring Robbie Krieger and Ray Manzarek of The Doors. The Cult staged a Canadian tour last May.

If that's not enough, the band have also seen one of their signature hits being covered by an unlikely candidate. British group Keane recorded a version of "She Sells Sanctuary" as one of the B-sides for their latest single, "A Bad Dream."
