Broken Social Scene Score The Tracey Fragments

Broken Social Scene have created the score for The Tracey Fragments, an upcoming motion picture starring Ellen Page.
According to the band's website, the Bruce McDonald-directed film will have its world premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival, which runs from Feb. 8 to 18. The movie will open the festival's Panorama program.
The independent picture, which was reportedly filmed in a mere 14 days, is based on the novel of the same name by Maureen Medved. The book, published in 1998, concerns a 15-year-old girl's emotional world. McDonald completed filming last March and described the movie to Playback Magazine as "Degrassi meets Hendrix."
The films Wicker Park, Lie With Me, The Love Crimes Of Gillian Guess and the Academy Award-nominated have previously featured the band's songs. The group also scored Snow Cake, a film starring Sigourney Weaver and Carrie-Anne Moss.
"That's the direction we're heading in," singer Kevin Drew said in an MTV interview last year. "When you have kids and homes, you don't want to make your living touring. Plus, I came into all this trying to do music for films."
While BSS have been quiet of late, various members of the collective have kept busy. Andrew Whiteman will release his new Apostle Of Hustle album, National Anthem Of Nowhere, next month. Apostle Of Hustle started their "Ouija" residency last week and are performing for four consecutive Wednesdays at The Rivoli in Toronto. Jason Collett will perform at Ottawa's Winterlude 2007 in early February. Leslie Feist's new album is expected in May and, as reported in November, Drew has been making a solo record.
