Vancouver rock band Default are back at work on the follow-up to 2005's One Thing Remains.
"We have been super busy writing and demo-ing new songs for what will eventually be our fourth record," drummer Danny Craig wrote on the band's MySpace page last week. "And so far it's really good."
The band have again enlisted the help of producer Bob Marlette, who worked with them on their last album and has also helped artists ranging from Black Sabbath to Tracy Chapman.
"We're hoping to have it finished and ready to go by the summer/early fall," Craig says. "Don't consider that a release date by any means, it all depends on when we're done. We're not rushing anything on this one, and yet we're working harder than we've ever worked before."
Craig also said that the band are "trying new things and exploring new and deeper styles, however the roots will remain the same." The group have completed demos for three songs and plan on having a couple more ready to record sometime in February. They'll mount a tour in support of the as-yet untitled album upon its release.
Default, perhaps best known for their "Wasting My Time" single, spent much of 2006 on the road supporting One Thing Remains, which featured the single "Count On Me." The group also had a supporting role on Nickelback's early 2006 U.S. tour before headlining their own Canadian trek.
Craig also kept busy during Default's down time by producing or co-producing three albums: Sick Logic's self-titled effort; The Travesty's Seven Days; and Shiftkit's Round 3, which was released last summer.

Default Return In September
Default will release their first album in four years on Sept. 29 through EMI.
