The Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival has a history of reuniting bands. Perry Farrell resurrected Jane's Addiction there in 2001. Iggy Pop and The Stooges buried the hatchet in 2003. The 2007 outing looks to be no different, with appearances by Rage Against The Machine and The Jesus And Mary Chain just announced.
The eighth Coachella will also mark the first time that the event will last three days, from April 27 to 29. Also headlining this year's edition in Indio, California will be Bjork and the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Rage played Coachella once before, headlining the inaugural show in 1999, just a year before they broke up. Lead singer and politically-minded lyricist Zack De La Rocha has been pretty quiet, while the rest of the group joined up with ex-Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell to form Audioslave.
Britain's Jesus And Mary Chain, led by the battling Reid brothers, effectively melded feedback with melody over the course of six excellent albums before going their separate ways in 1999. Their last album, Munki, was released in 1998. They've influenced a wide range of bands, including My Bloody Valentine, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and The Stone Roses.
There will also be an impressive Canadian contingent at the festival, including Arcade Fire, The New Pornographers, Tokyo Police Club, Rufus Wainwright, Peaches, Junior Boys and MSTRKRFT.
Tickets for the three-day festival go on sale at 10 a.m. on Saturday via Ticketmaster and will cost $249 U.S. A limited number of single-day passes will go for $85. Camping passes are available for an extra $45 for a four-night stay.
