Gary Glitter's Good Behaviour May Spring Him Early From Prison

Gary Glitter has apparently been a model inmate, which may earn him an early release from a Vietnamese prison. The British glam-rocker (real name Paul Francis Gadd) was sentenced to three years behind bars in March for molesting two pre-teen girls at his rented villa in Vung Tau, Vietnam. He's been in custody since his arrest in November 2005. An appeal of the guilty verdict was denied last June.
Glitter's name has been added to a list of prisoners being considered for early release as part of Vietnam's Lunar New Year celebrations next month. The country traditionally reduces prison terms for people with good records at that time of year. Inmates can be nominated for early release if they've behaved well and fellow prisoners recommend it, and Glitter has apparently been popular with his jailers.
And perhaps living out the titles of some of his songs — including "Rock Hard Men Part 1 & 2," "Trade," "Whooz Being Good To You," "Ready To Rock," "Loverman" and "Up For Love" — has made him a favourite of his cellmates.
Glitter could be released as early as May if his sentence is reduced.
The 62-year-old was convicted for possessing child pornography in the U.K. in 1999 and served half of a four-month jail term. He eventually went to Cuba and then Cambodia, where officials expelled him from the country without specifying a reason or laying any charges against him.
