Much Doubt Over No Doubt's Future

No Doubt

In a move that echoes the Beyonce/Destiny's Child split in almost every conceivable way, successful solo artist Gwen Stefani says a future No Doubt reunion is a long way off.

"I see it on the horizon, but I'm not focusing on it," Stefani told Billboard.com. "I can't really put a timetable on it, but I think it would be really great. Nothing can compare to the energy of the four of us onstage."

Stefani's move to focus more on her solo career, family and clothing and perfume lines should surprise no one. Her phenomenally successful solo debut, 2004's Love. Angel. Music. Baby., sold seven million copies worldwide, picked up two Grammy nominations and spawned "Hollaback Girl," the first American digital download to sell more than one million copies.

"Wind It Up," the first single from new album The Sweet Escape, debuted at #40 in the Billboard Hot 100. It's Stefani's highest debut, with or without No Doubt.

"It's really exciting to have all these songs to choose from," she said. "On the last tour, I only had one album, so it was like, 'OK! I guess these are the songs that I'm doing.' Now, I will get to choose the best and most delicious tracks. But it's a bit overwhelming to think up all the concepts for the staging."

Ironically, Stefani told MTV.com just last month that she plans to soon return to No Doubt.

"I don't plan on making one of these solo dance project records. I definitely feel myself going back to No Doubt after this to do a new album," she said. "I don't really know what will happen with those other [No Doubt] songs, there's probably about 10 left over. I could [make] an album with them really fast."

No Doubt's last release was 2003's box set and singles collection. Their previous studio album, Rock Steady, was released in 2001 and debuted at #9 on the Billboard 200.
